CLL Glossary
Commerce Little League has been providing youth baseball leagues in our area for over 60 years. During that time, many terms have grown to be commonly used in our league. Following is a glossary of these terms. We hope this will be helpful to new families joining our league!
House Teams:
These are teams that are open to all youths fitting the age/location requirements of our league. Everyone who signs up for a house team will be placed on a team. All of our House teams compete against each other during our regular season and playoffs. All of our House Team games are played at Maple Glen Fields.
Travel Teams:
Players need to try out to make a travel team. Travel teams are outside of CLL and Little League play.
District tournament:
Each year, there are Little League Baseball District Tournaments held in each state. The winners of their district go on to play other district winners in regional /sectional tournaments. The winners of each region go on to play against other regional winners for an opportunity to win the State Championship. The winners of the Michigan State Championship go on to play other state champions from other midwest states. The winner of the Midwest Championship would then go on to play in the Little League World Series against other regional champions. Players on District teams must play in House Leagues.
Commerce Cobras:
The Cobras is the Commerce Little League tournament team that has been created to compete in District tournaments. Players need to try out for Cobra teams and we may form multiple teams based on interest. Our Cobras teams do off-season winter training, have additional practices in-season, and play in 5 or 6 tournaments to help our teams prepare for districts. Our Cobras players also play in House Teams in our league. Information about the Cobras can be found
here
.
Southwest Oakland Baseball Organization:
Together Commerce Little League and Commerce Cobras make up the the Southwest Oakland Baseball Organization.
